Commission forecasts cost of new benefit

The Scottish Government has today laid secondary legislation in the Scottish Parliament for Child Winter Heating Assistance. This is a new form of assistance to support eligible families with their heating costs and the first payments will be made this winter. Child Winter Heating Assistance entitles children who receive the highest rate of care on Child Disability Living Allowance to an additional annual payment of £200.

The Scottish Fiscal Commission estimates over 14,000 children will receive the payment in winter 2020, at a cost of £2.9 million.
